Song of the day: “Fuel For Hatred” by Satyricon
A good number of Norwegian black metal bands that, despite having started out practicing what many call pure black metal, have ended up evolving over the years into something different without losing an iota of originality and without the need to give up their own identity. Examples of bands like Ulver may deviate a little more from this equation and are located on a diametrically opposite plane, although in practice they have done something similar, which is to distance themselves from their cheesier beginnings to offer something of quality that many could simply repudiate for having moved away. entirely from his initial proposal.
The case of Satyricon, like that of many other bands, is one of those cases where the band formed by Satyr and Frost has gradually evolved, turning their compositions into something as dark and sinister as their first two albums Dark Medieval Times (1993, Moonfog Productions ) and The Shadowthrone (1994, Moonfog Productions), my favorites, but with a certain punch, making their songs a little less long and not so overloaded where the use of catchier riffs prevails that many have called commercial but that undoubtedly still have something that many other bands certainly haven’t been able to find in years.
After the success of Nemesis Divina (1996, Moonfog Productions) and the disaster with Rebel Extravaganza (1999, Moonfog Productions) they managed to regain the reins a little with an interesting album such as Volcano (2002, Moonfog Productions) reinventing the formula of their first albums with a more polished and refined sound that over time would result in the release of two brutal albums such as Now, Diabolical (2006, Roadrunner Records) and The Age Of Nero (2008, Roadrunner Records). However, Volcano includes two songs that in my opinion are among the best they have composed in their career, the devastating Repined Bastard Nation and the one we are dealing with today, Fuel For Hatred, suitable to liven up any day when everything turns to your side. against and you want to destroy everything that crosses your path.
