Kerry King announces his debut solo album and releases first single “Idle Hands”
Following his career as a member of Slayer, guitarist Kerry King has recently announced that his debut solo album From Hell I Rise will be released on May 17, 2024 via Reigning Phoenix Music. The first preview of the album is Idle Hands, which you can listen to below:
The guitarist has also revealed the lineup that recorded From Hell I Rise, which includes vocalist Mark Osegueda (Death Angel), bassist Kyle Sanders (Hellyeah), guitarist Phil Demmel (Vio-Lence) and drummer Paul Bostaph (Slayer).
From Hell I Rise contains two songs that the guitarist had already written for Slayer‘s album Repentless (2015, Nuclear Blast), according to King in an interview with Rolling Stone: the title track of the album From Hell I Rise and Rage. “It was finished, we recorded it. I wasn’t happy with the performance part of it, so I was like, ‘All right, I’ll put this in my back pocket until the next Slayer record.’ And that didn’t happen, so it’s now on my record“, says King.
When King was asked why he decided to name the band Kerry King, the guitarist stated: “I didn’t. It was going to be King’s Reign for a long time, which is really cool. But even with that one, I went to the guys, like, ‘I’m not a vain dude. I don’t want my name to be a part of it.’ We talked about Blood Reign for a while, but it didn’t work. Every time I came up with anything remotely cool, it was taken by some obscure band in Eastern Europe. It became Kerry King because I love that logo.“
